Office of Institutional Advancement
The Office of Institutional Advancement at Old Dominion University serves as the outreach arm of the institution and works closely with alumni, government officials, community leaders, donors and the media. The office is headed by Vice President John R. Broderick. Institutional Advancement is responsible for writing and producing three of the University's chief communication vehicles - Old Dominion University Magazine, The Courier and Quest Magazine. Old Dominion University Magazine is written and produced for the institution's 100,000-plus alumni, while The Courier is the University's monthly newspaper produced each month for the campus community and external constituents. Quest, Old Dominion University's research magazine, highlights faculty research, innovation and breakthroughs. It is published twice a year. John R. Broderick
John R. Broderick has served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Old Dominion University since 1996. He was given the additional duties of Chief of Staff in 2003. His areas of responsibility include: domestic, graduate and international admissions; financial aid; community relations; governmental relations; marketing; media relations; military relations; publications; university events; licensing and the University's Visitor Center. In addition, he serves as editor-in chief of The Old Dominion University Alumni Magazine, The Courier campus newspaper and Quest, the University's faculty research magazine.
Mr. Broderick came to Old Dominion in 1993. In addition to his administrative duties, each semester he teaches a graduate class in the Darden College of Education titled "School Community Relations and Politics."
Mr. Broderick came to Old Dominion from the University of Pittsburgh where he was a journalism faculty member and adviser to the student newspaper. Previously, he served as director of public relations and marketing at St. Bonaventure University and as the director of tourism for both the Island of Martha's Vineyard and The Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.
He has also been a reporter and editor for several daily newspapers in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and has had articles published in a variety of publications, including The Sporting News, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Baltimore Sun, The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, The Hartford Courant, CASE Currents, The Virginian-Pilot and The Daily Press. |
