What can I expect at preview?
Students and parents/guests attend sessions together unless noted otherwise.
9:30am, Check-In, North Mall of Webb Center. Includes coffee and danishes.
10:15am, Taking Care of Business (Paying for College, Computing on Campus, Safety)
11:00am, College Presentations
12:00pm, Lunch & Organizations & Services Fair, optional campus tours
1:30pm, Course Registration (Students only) and Parent/Guest Programming (Guests only)
3:00pm, Optional residence hall tours
5:00pm, Program ends
How much does it cost to attend on-campus preview?
The cost of orientation programming is included in a $75 New Student Transition Fee that the university assesses to all new, degree-seeking, non-distance undergraduates. The fee covers orientation and other transition programming. It will be included in your fall tuition bill.
How much does it cost to bring a guest?
If you'd like to bring a guest to Preview, there is a $25 fee per person, which should be paid when you register for the event. To make an online reservation, you may pay using a credit or bank card with a Visa or MasterCard logo. To pay by check/money order, contact our office at email@example.com or 757-683-3428 to request a hard copy of the brochure and reservation form.
When is it held?
Preview dates fill on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage you to make a reservation early. Any travel arrangements and/or hotel reservations should be made after your date is secure. Keep in mind that you'll enjoy greater flexibility while choosing your classes if attend an earlier Preview.

Housing and Residence Life invite families to stay overnight in a residence hall suite (Ireland House). The rate for overnight accommodation is $80 (taxes and fees included). Amenities: a suite, private bathroom, linens, and wireless internet access. Please allow us to prepare for your arrival... Return the reservation form within 7 business days of your Preview date.
What should I bring to preview?
Please bring your MIDAS ID and password, University ID Number (UIN), a print-out of transfer credits (if applicable), a photo ID to obtain your ODU ID card, pen and paper, and a jacket (it gets cold in Webb Center). If you're majoring in the College of Business and Public Administration, you're also encouraged to bring a draft resume.
Where should I park?
Parking Garage E on 49th Street at Bluestone Avenue (by the football field) on levels 2, 3, and 4. Avoid metered spaces. A staff member will direct you to Webb Center.
How do I make a reservation?
Before registering, make sure you:
- Have paid the Admissions Fee and waited 2 business days for it to process (contact Admissions at 757-683-3685 with questions)
- Understand our date change and cancellation policies,
- Have read the New Student Checklist,
- Know your University ID Number (UIN) and ODU student email address.
- Understand that you must take the Writing Sample Placement Test; please read the linked website for specific instructions.
- Complete the Online Orientation
Is online orientation required?
Yes. You will need to take the Online Orientation before you can register for an on-campus Preview.
