APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS
ANNA JENG, associate professor of community and environmental health, appointed as an editorial board member of the Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B. The journal has a worldwide circulation on subjects related to toxic and hazardous substances, i.e. pesticides, food contaminants, air pollutants and agricultural waste. She was also appointed to serve on the Advisory Committee of the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice. IPEP's mission is to improve the practice and educational standards of environmental professionals around the globe through administration of multidisciplinary certification programs. The committee advises the IPEP about the professional development needs of graduates and curriculum-related matters on emerging environmental professional and environmental health and sciences programs.
AWARDS
JOHN ADAM, University Professor of Mathematics, the Mathematical Association of America's Carl B. Allendoerfer Award, given for articles of expository excellence published in Mathematics Magazine. This is an award of $500. Up to two of these awards are given annually at the association's summer meeting.
BOOKS
LYTTON MUSSELMAN, Mary Payne Hogan Professor Botany, and ODU graduate DAVID KNEPPER, an environmental scientist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a field guide, "Plants of the Chesapeake Bay" (The Johns Hopkins University Press). The book is liberally illustrated with photos by Musselman.
EXHIBITIONS
PETER EUDENBACH, associate professor of art, curator of the exhibition "To Arrive Where We Started" at the Redwood Library and Athenaeum in Newport, R.I. His sculpture "Captain Charles Hunter: Lost in a Sea of His Own Hair" (2012), an elegy to the native Newporter who was lost at sea in 1873, is among the works on display. The exhibition opened July 15 and continues through June 30, 2013.

PERFORMANCES
PETER SCHULMAN, professor of French and international studies, associate producer for the play "Sleeping Ugly" by Arnold Schulman at the Santa Monica Playhouse (April-June) and executive producer for a version of Frank Baum's "The Wizard of Oz" at the Haberdasher Theater in New York City (June).

JOHN ADAM, University Professor of mathematics, "Blood Vessel Branching: Beyond the Standard Calculus Problem" in vol. 84, no. 3 of Mathematics Magazine.
JOHN DOUKAS, professor and Eminent Scholar of finance, "The ECB's policy of printing money will not lead to wealth creation. Instead, it will inevitably lead to inflation far above 6% across Europe," posted May 29 at EUROPP (European Politics and policy Blog), London School of Economics and Political Science. Also, an editorial, "Can the Euro Survive?," in the June issue of European Financial Management.
RICHARD NICKEL, associate professor of art, published in the book "Humor and Craft," Brigitte Martin, editor (Schiffer Publishing). A photo of his earthenware/glaze sculpture, titled "Sprout," was selected for inclusion, as were photos of pieces by students NIKKI HAWKHORST and ARIEL MARIN. "Humor in Craft" showcases numerous ceramic, woodworking and metalworking artists exploring the theme of humor.
SONIA YACO, Special Collections librarian and university archivist, and Beatriz Betancourt Hardy, "Historians, Archivists, and Social Activism: Benefits and Costs" in Archival Science, 2012, DOI 10.1007/s10502-012-9187-0. Hardy is the dean of libraries and instructional resources at Salisbury University. Previously, she was Marian and Alan McLeod Director of the Special Collections Research Center at the College of William and Mary.
