BARKOW NAMED YACHTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR FOR SECOND TIME

Former ODU sailing standout Sally Barkow ('02) has been named U.S. Sailing's 2007 Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year. She joins a prestigious list of only 10 women who have received the honor more than once.

She will be honored and presented with specially engraved Rolex timepiece during a luncheon on February 29, 2008, at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan.

Barkow is a three time collegiate All-American who graduated from Old Dominion University '02 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. While at Old Dominion, she twice earned ICSA (Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association) All-American honors (2001 and 2002), and helped ODU win the 2002 ICSA North American Women's Championship for the third time in the university's history.

She is currently training with her team for the Yngling World Championships to be held in Feb. 2008. The World Championship is the final event in a series which will determine whether Barkow and her crew, called Team 7, will represent the U.S. in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Debbie Capozzi, a member of Team 7, also sailed for ODU.

Established in 1961 by US Sailing and sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A. since 1980, the Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year awards recognize the outstanding on-the-water competitive achievement of an individual woman in the calendar year just concluded.
