Faculty Forums Upcoming on Proposed Research Strategic Plan
April 16, 2015
Growing research, scholarship and creative activities are just a few objectives contained in the Research Strategic Plan recently developed in support of goals outlined in Old Dominion University's 2014-2019 Strategic Plan.
Two open forums are scheduled for faculty discussion of the plan:
- Thursday, April 16, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium (room 1202) of the E.V. Williams Engineering and Computational Sciences Building.
- Friday, April 24 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. in Constant Hall, Room 1002.
Faculty may choose to attend both, but the events are not sequential.
The research strategic plan is a framework which faculty can use to identify areas the university should invest in to grow activities and opportunities that further nurture ODU's mission, said Morris Foster, vice president for research.
It emphasizes, although not exclusively, local research opportunities with national and international interest, Foster said.
"For example, sea level rise has been a focus of university research because it affects us locally, but what we're learning can be used around the world," he explained.
The Office of Research convened a faculty steering committee last September to generate discussion and ideas that ultimately resulted in the draft document. The committee is made up of thirty faculty members from across the university.
The full plan may be viewed on the Office of Research website.
