ODU-produced Album for Relay for Life Now Available Online

After several months of work, a full-length album of original songs created by a group of Old Dominion University students and faculty is now available for download online.

Net proceeds from sales of the 28-track album will directly benefit Relay for Life.

"Eye of the Storm" is a multi-genre album themed to raise money for the national charity organization that supports the American Cancer Society.

In all, about 30 music production students helped produce the album, which costs $9.99. The student organization, collectively known as "The Monarchy," was led by Bob Wright, an adjunct lecturer at ODU and local music producer and recording/mixing engineer with 30 years of experience in the industry.

Wright said the album marks the first time a university has created an album of original songs themed for Relay for Life. He hopes the effort will lead to the faculty/student production of additional albums for other charities in the future.

Students began writing songs for the album over winter break and production lasted until late March before the final mixing of the recordings took place.

"Eye of the Storm" was produced in a state-of-the art recording studio that is part of a recently completed 18,120-square-foot expansion of the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.
