Awards Presented During Batten College's Annual Engineering Awards Dinner

Faculty and staff of Old Dominion University's Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology were recognized during the College's 2014 Excellence Awards Banquet on Tuesday, April 29.

Five Batten College Excellence Awards were presented during the dinner at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Dean Oktay Baysal said the Excellence Award recipients were chosen from many worthy candidates.

"It's a testament to the talent and passion of faculty and staff of the College that there are so many worthy candidates for these awards," Baysal said.

The Excellence Award for Teaching was presented to Pilar Pazos-Lago, assistant professor of engineering management. The Excellence Award for Advising was presented to Tania Alvarez, first year adviser for the Batten College. The Excellence Award for Research was presented to Khan Iftekharuddin, professor and chair of electrical and computer engineering, and director of the ODU Vision Lab. The Excellence Award for Engagement was presented to Mileta Tomovic, professor and chair of engineering technology. The Excellence Award for Support Operations was presented to Tiffany Cummings, academic programming support employee with engineering technology.

Other awards presented during the event include faculty awards for the top student in each of the College's 11 academic departments, as well as the college-wide student awards.

The Faculty Award in engineering was presented to Jon Hannell. The faculty award in engineering technology was presented to Eric Ruuhela. An award for outstanding scholarly achievement was presented to Mark Levenstein, in recognition of his Fulbright Scholarship at the University of Leeds in England for the next school year.

The Lee M. Klinefelter Award in Engineering Technology was presented to Manuel Soares. The J. Harold Lampe Award in Engineering was presented to Natalia Crist.
