Accolades for ODU in New U.S. News & World Report Rankings

In the most recent college rankings published by U.S. News & World Report, several online degree programs offered by Old Dominion University were listed among the best in the nation.

The new rankings were published Jan. 7. In the 2014 listings, the ODU graduate program in nursing was rated 24th best in the nation. In addition, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Darden College of Education's graduate programs 42nd overall, and ODU's online bachelor's programs placed 69th out of all university programs that were analyzed.

In the course of compiling the rankings, nearly 860 online education programs were evaluated, according to the magazine.

ODU registered more than 23,400 enrollments in online courses during the 2012-13 academic year. The university offers more than 60 online degree and certification programs in various disciplines, with tuition and fees averaging $6,566 per semester.

Accolades given in 2013 for ODU distance learning programs included:

  • The Open Education Database rated ODU's online computer science program the fourth best in the country in its 2013 Online Colleges rankings.
  • GetEducated.com gave a "Best Buy" ranking to ODU's online bachelor's degree programs in nursing, psychology and human services, as well as to the Master of Science in nursing program.
  • ODU online degrees in counseling (master's) and human services (bachelor's) were featured on SR Education Group's new website, www.OnlineU.org, as being among the most affordable college online degrees. In the national rankings, the counseling program was 13th and the human services program was eighth in their respective disciplines.
