JACKIE BARROW, director of community relations and special events for Athletics, named to the Norfolk Hotels Association Advisory Board.

DEBRA MAJOR, professor of psychology, elected a Fellow of the Society for the Psychology of Women.

AWARDS

ANDREAS TOLK, former professor of engineering management and systems engineering, Editor's Choice recognition for "influential articles" published in the Journal of Simulation for "Reference Modelling in Support of M&S - Foundations and Applications," which appeared online Feb. 15, 2013. Co-authors are SAIKOU DIALLO and JOSE PADILLA, both research faculty members with VMASC, and HEBER HERENCIA-ZAPANA, an ODU graduate. Tolk is now chief scientist for SimIS Inc. in Portsmouth.

M'HAMMED ABDOUS, assistant vice president for teaching and learning with technology, Office of Distance Learning, "MOOC's: A Passing Fad or a Disruptive Technology?" at the 2nd International Conference on e-science in Colombia. His presentation defined MOOC's, key players, delivery modes, faculty and student perceptions, revenue models and more.

JOHN ADAM, University Professor of mathematics, and Philip Laven, "The Heiligenschein" at the 2013 International Light and Color in Nature: Conference in Fairbanks, Alaska.

BISMARCK MYRICK, lecturer in political science and history, and Ambassador-in-Residence, a talk at UN Peace Day in Hampton Roads.

AHMED K. NOOR, William E. Lobeck Professor of MSV Engineering, "Envisioning Engineering Computational Technology in the Coming Intelligence Convergence Era" at the 14th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy.

C. ARIEL PINTO, associate professor of Engineering management and systems engineering and director of the Emergent Risk Initiative (ERI@ODU), a series of workshops, talks and presentations at several universities in the Philippines on enterprise risk management (ERM) for engineers and techno-preneurs. In summer 2013, he visited three major universities in the Philippines - University of the Philippines, De La Salle University and Mapua Institute of Technology. All three universities are in the metropolitan Manila area.

Also, "A Phenomenology of Sharing on Social Networking Sites," keynote presentation by invitation, at Social Media: The Fourth Transforming Audiences Conference, University of Westminster, London, UK. Also, "Public Philosophy of Technology: Motivations, Barriers, and Reforms" with co-authors Evan Selinger of Rochester Institute of Technology and LUCINDA RUSH, education reference librarian, at Computer Ethics, Philosophical Enquiry (CEPE) 2013: Ambiguous Technologies: Philosophical Issues, Practical Solutions, Human Nature, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal.
