Power Out To a Handful of ODU Buildings

A handful of Old Dominion University buildings are without power this morning, but Dominion Virginia Power says electricity should be restored by mid-morning.

A fire in the transformer on the north side of the Lions Child Study Center has been extinguished, but the incident has left the Child Study Center, Kaufman Hall, Alfriend Chemistry Building and Education Building without power. The E.V. Williams Engineering and Computational Sciences Building is operating by generator power.

Between 9 and 9:30 a.m., Dominion will turn off all power to the affected buildings for about 30 minutes. Power should be restored to all the buildings in about an hour, and then mechanical systems will be resent to restore cooling to the buildings. Facilities Management says all the affected buildings will be running normally by mid-day.

This is a temporary repair and a late night power outage will be scheduled in the near future. Details will be provided for the future outage.
