Think Green: Sustainable Living Fair Coming to ODU Campus Feb. 16-17

Old Dominion University will host the fourth annual Sustainable Living Fair Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16-17.
Hatched following a conversation between Five Points Community Farm Market director Bev Sell and Green Alternatives owner Amelia Baker, the event strives to better inform the community about sustainable living practices in every aspect of people's lives.
The fair moved to Old Dominion University's Webb Center two years ago, following its debut at Norfolk's Waterside marketplace. This year's fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17. Admission and parking to the event are free.
Local experts representing this year's exhibitors aspire to share their knowledge, education and information with sustainable-conscious citizens of all ages.
Participants include TFC Recycling, Fresh Start Homes, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Alive Chiropractic, Best Value Remodelers, Solar Services, doTerra Essential Oils, Eco Maniac Co. and Tri-Neighborhood Community Garden.
Among the attractions for visitors to the Sustainable Living Fair are the Kitsch Kid's Corner, where children can make crafts with re-used trash; a seed swap with the Norfolk Master Gardener Association; animals from the SPCA; and a traditional blacksmith in action Saturday on the Kaufman Mall lawn in front of Webb Center.
"We are also very excited that the fair will feature an aquaponics system and grow-your-own shrimp display, alongside fair mainstays like the Kitsch Kid's Corner this year. We will have a lot of interactive displays and something that should appeal to young and old, seasoned and unseasoned green folks alike," Sell said.
Tami Park-Farinholt, coordinator of ODU's Center for Service and Civic Engagement, said the Sustainable Living Fair is a great fit for the university. "Our campus community becomes more engaged in these causes all the time, as evidenced by the growth in our Community Supported Agriculture partnership with Five Points and Aramark," she said. "This event features an amazing array of exhibitors and talks that can inform and entertain anyone who attends."
