Langlais is New Board President for Wetlands Watch

Philip Langlais, professor of psychology at Old Dominion University, has been elected president of the board of directors of Wetlands Watch, an organization dedicated to preserving wetlands.

A neuroscientist who has studied and worked on the East Coast and West Coast, Langlais has served on the Wetlands Watch board for the past eight years. "I feel very connected to the oceans, marshes and wetlands," Langlais said. "Serving on the board of Wetlands Watch has given me the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of individuals who are so dedicated to preserving wetlands, one of our most precious natural resources."

The organization, which evolved from an informal group of Norfolk citizens, was formed in 1999. It is the only statewide organization in the eastern United States working at the grassroots level with a singular focus on saving wetlands. (www.wetlandswatch.org)

Currently, Wetlands Watch is collaborating with state and local organizations to develop land-use models that can be used by Virginia tidewater communities to protect wetland resources as the sea rises; conducting education and advocacy programs at the local level to educate and motivate citizens to press state and local governments to take sea level rise into account in wetlands regulation and conservation; and working to enlarge its membership and become self-sustaining.ectors of Wetlands Watch, an organization dedicated to preserving wetlands.
