Dear Campus Community,
Over the past 15 years, Old Dominion University has experienced unprecedented growth. With more than 25,000 students, 165 academic degree programs, an extensive research enterprise, and a thriving residential campus, the university has become a leading metropolitan institution.
To ensure our campus infrastructure continues to meet our academic, research, student life and athletic needs, as well as supports Old Dominion's mission, we are undertaking an update to the University Master Plan.
International architecture and design firm Perkins + Will will lead the effort, which will include broad input from both internal and external stakeholders.
The resulting Master Plan will examine our existing campus and how we use it, and provide options for modifications that will help achieve the university vision over the next 20 years. Areas of study will include:
- Academic and Strategic Plan
- Athletic Facilities
- Building Design Guidelines
- Entrances/Gateways
- Higher Education Centers
- Housing
- Landscape
- Land Use (with emphasis on open space and preservation)
- Pedestrian Circulation
- Signage
- Recreation
- Research Facilities
- Space Needs
- Student Services
- Traffic/Transportation/Parking
The project is founded on the commitment to provide the entire university community an opportunity to engage with the planning team. Shortly, we will announce meeting schedules that promote direct connection with faculty, staff, students, community partners, and all that wish to participate in the planning process. I encourage you to this Campus Master Plan website for updates and meeting announcements.
Old Dominion University is committed to the educational, economic, social and cultural vitality of Hampton Roads. This Master Plan will provide a roadmap for the future development of campus to ensure the continued success of that commitment.
Sincerely,
David F. Harnage
Chief Operating Officer
