ODU Football Coach Bobby Wilder among recipients of December Men of Quality Award

The Old Dominion University Women's Center recently named head football coach Bobby Wilder and student Tyler Burns as the latest award recipients in the ODU Man of Quality (MOQ) Campaign.

The campaign is designed to engage men in conversations about healthy masculinity, gender equality and help end violence against women. To qualify for the award, one has to display the characteristics of a Man of Quality and be nominated by a student or staff member.

The six characteristics of A Man of Quality are:

  • A positive role model for others
  • Not afraid to express emotion
  • Challenges himself and others to be greater men of quality
  • Kind and shows empathy to others
  • Values assertiveness over aggression
  • Respects women's equality

On Dec. 17, Coach Wilder received the Faculty/Staff award from committee members who felt he displayed the characteristics of a Man of Quality for participating in and supporting the Women's Center's "1 is 2 Many" video and the Red Flag Campaign as well as for his work with Samaritan House.

The student award was given to Tyler Burns who was nominated by a fellow Monarch. Burns demonstrated the characteristics of a Man of Quality through his involvement with family and younger cousins as well as the attitude and character he displays toward friends and fellow students.

To nominate someone who displays the characteristics of a Man of Quality, fill out the form on the Women's Center Monarch Link page.
