Letter from the Dean

The Honors College offers Old Dominion University undergraduates the benefits of a small liberal arts college within the framework of a large, research-intensive university.

Our general education courses promote active engagement and collaboration between students and faculty. Our Essential equipment/supply grants, the Student Honors Apprenticeship in Research Program, civic learning projects, and conference travel grants support honors students in their development as researchers and community members.

The Honors College also assists all undergraduates in the development of succcesful applications for prestigious scholarships, including the Rhodes, Truman, Marshall, Mitchell, and Jack Kent Cooke competitions. Our alumni have been granted a total of $300,000 in graduate scholarships so far.

We are proud of the character of our students and strive to foster their excitment in the pursuit of knowledge and, ultimately, of wisdom.

David Metzger, Ph.D.
