Excite the Dream ODU is a program designed for underrepresented scholars with a dream of pursuing a career in academia. This program provides an opportunity for underrepresented scholars to gain more insight into the professoriate by inviting them to campus to participate in a one-day experience designed to cultivate skills in teaching, research, grant writing and innovative use of technology. Scholars will have the opportunity to:
- Attend workshops from award-winning ODU professors
- Learn about our campus and scholarly expectations
- Present their research agenda to chairs, deans and potential hiring committee members.

Program Highlights
How do I qualify?
- Be completing a terminal degree by September 2, 2024.
- Be a member of an underrepresented population.
- Have an interest in academia.
- Submit a completed application by December 1, 2023, including a cover letter, research statement, teaching philosophy and statement of interest.
Selected qualified candidates will participate in a program designed to excite their dream of becoming a scholar in academia.
