Lieutenant
Colonel Jerry L. Wood is the Army War College Fellow at Old
Dominion University serving in the Virginia Modeling, Analysis
& Simulation Center. He holds a B.A. in English from the
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a M.S. in Administration
from Central Michigan University.
LTC Wood
has 20 years of military experience. He was commissioned as
a Regular Army Infantry Officer in 1985 and has served in
both Light Infantry and Mechanized Infantry units. During
Operation Desert Shield he served as a Battalion Battle Captain
with the 24th Infantry Division and upon his return was a
Bradley Company Commander. He transitioned to the North Carolina
Army National Guard in 1993 and served in various staff positions—during
this time he was deployed to Operation Joint Guard in Slavonski
Brod, Croatia.
Since
1999, LTC Wood has served in several key staff positions for
the Army National Guard focused on Battle Staff Training.
He served the Battle Command Training Program Operations Officer
for the National Guard Bureau, the Assistant Operations Officer
to Operations Group “Charlie” of the Battle Command
Training Program and as an Instructor at the Command and General
Staff College. His last assignment was the Commander of the
Battle Command Training Center (BCTC) located at Fort Leavenworth,
Kansas. The BCTC is an Army National Guard 122,000 square
foot facility that is used exclusively for Battle Staff Training.
LTC Wood
is a graduate of the Infantry Basic and Advance Courses, the
Field Artillery Advance Course, Combined Arms and Services
Staff School, the Air Command Staff College, and the Army
Command and General Staff College.

Wood’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious
Service Medal (2 awards), Army Commendation Medal (4 awards),
Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement
Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest
Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, NATO Medal,
Kuwait Liberation Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantry Badge,
Expert Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, Air Assault Badge
and other awards.
