Dr. Michael Stacey 

Associate Research Professor

 

 

Michael Stacey received his Ph.D. from the Dept. Cancer Studies, University of Birmingham, England where he gained experience in cell and molecular biology, cytogenetics and inheritance of disease.  From 1992-95 he did a fellowship in Clinical Genetics studying the rare inherited disorder, the ICF syndrome, and presented and helped organize the first international conference on this disorder. Between 1995-97 he took at post-doctoral position in the Dept. Pharmacology, University of Oxford, England studying the occurrence of and polymorphisms in the drug metabolizing genes N-acetyltransferases in patients with bladder cancer before moving to the Center for Pediatric Research, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia in 1997 as an Assistant Professor.  Here he continued work on polymorphisms in drug metabolizing genes in the leukemia disposing disorders aplastic anemia and myelodysplastic syndrome.  Work expanded to an investigation of the inheritance of the chest wall deformity pectus excavatum in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.  During his time at EVMS he was introduced to “Bioelectrics” and moved to the Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics, Old Dominion University in January 2007 as an Associate Research Professor. He is currently working on the sensitization of cancer cell lines to ultra-short pulses of electricity and measuring biological responses of cells to these pulses.  Dr Stacey has published over 35 articles in peer reviewed Journals and presented at national and international meetings.
