Welcome to Instructional Design & Technology

Instructional Design and Technology has grown to become a vital and important field. Practitioners are found in many areas, such as:

    • Elementary and secondary school classrooms, where teachers enhance their own professional development by becoming educational technologists.
    • Industry. Business is the largest employer of instructional technologists, with fields including human resource development (HRD), human performance, and corporate training.
    • The Military, where instructional technologists are asked to develop and deliver courses, training programs, and other instructional materials in each of the armed services.

The ID&T program at the Darden College of Education provides students with a solid grounding in instructional design and cognitive theory to meet these challenges. Our wide variety of course offerings are designed to give the graduate a strong background in both the theory and practice of the field. All students will master the following areas:

Instructional Design Visual Design & Comunication
Applied Cognition Distance Education
Evaluation & Assessment Future Trends in Technology

The ID&T program covers the basics of the field while providing each student with the flexibility to pursue their own interests. The rigorous course of study will prepare you for a future in instructional technology in a variety of venues.
