Marie Hone

I have 7 years of teaching experience ranging from fifth to 12th grade mostly centered in math and computer science. Additionally, I have served as the Computer Department Chairperson for one of Tidewater's premiere private schools. The lessons I learned while pursuing my Master's Degree at Old Dominion University are essential to maintaining the rigor of my education program in an academic discipline that is in continuous change.

Technology in the classroom is more than the sum of computer applications, computer programming and computer assisted study. It embraces each of these specific disciplines but also a great deal more. It involves educators and administrators at the highest levels recognizing and applying the opportunities presented by technology in the classroom. It requires engaging staff and students to continue to stretch the horizon of learning. The coursework in Old Dominion University's Instructional Design and Technology program engages the postgraduate level student well beyond the level of employing current technology applications. It provides the foundation for application of new concept technology, asynchronous and self-paced computer assisted study, as well as programs focused on serving the instructor in the modern classroom.

Facilitating this instruction process is no easy task. The instructors at Old Dominion University are experts in displaying and integrating all forms of educational technology in a structured learning environment that makes it
easy for a working professional to participate in the Instructional Design and Technology degree program. The individual attention provided by the Old Dominion University Staff and depth of expertise in their field enables a
quality education tailored to meet the professional needs of each student. As well, every instructor continues to expand his/her own knowledge base to ensure that Master's candidates are exposed to the latest available tools and trends in education technology.

The world of education technology is one of continuous and rapid change. Old Dominion University's Instructional Design and Technology program will continue to change and grow with the times, but it will continue to meet its primary goal- "to provide a program that meet the needs of professionals interested or involved in the development and delivery of instruction". Education professionals will find the Master's program at Old Dominion University an excellent method to increase the impact and effectiveness of their instruction.
