Educational Background

Sometime in the dim past, I earned a BS in Education (Mathematics) at UVa. For some reason, I got the "academic bug" a number of years later and worked on/received my Masters in the Management of Information Systems (also at UVa) in Spring 2002 and... started working on my PhD in Urban Services (Management) at ODU in the Fall of 2002. Part of my interests are in how people learn and think, and thanks to Dr Maurice Berube, I was steered towards Dr Overbaugh and ID&T as a cognate (this is great stuff, folks!). My other academic interests include inferential statistical analysis, housing problems, telecommuting issues, diversity, and the digital divide. One of these days, I'd like to write, teach, and consult.

Work (e.g., my 7:00-4:30 life!)

During the day, I'm a manager for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Charleston (Norfolk Office); essentially I'm a leader of Project Managers engaged in various IT pursuits. However, I also research technology, deal with budgets, work with personnel "challenges", assist with general decision making, and so on. Soooo... I do a lot of general consultation (hopefully, with some non-Dilbert thought behind it).

Other Interests (you mean there's time for other stuff?)

Besides being married and having a son who will be a teenager soon, I am (passionately) involved in the sport of rugby as an ex-player, club administrator, head of a non-profit foundation, referee, state officer, regional officer, a representative to the USA Rugby Board of Directors, and a member of several national committees (also, I was the coach of the late, lamented ODU Women's Rugby team in the early to mid-90's); additionally, I perform IT consulting for several rugby organizations. In my spare(?) time, I have a stack of books to read (ranging from a few "Dummy" books to science, history, social concerns, and sci-fi), software to play with, and so on. One of these days, I want to learn the guitar.

And finally...

I'm one of the (seemingly) few Norfolk natives! While there are other places to live, the size of this area is just right... I'm also an Email fanatic as a result of having an account (of some sort) since 1983(!) and having set up a LAN and a EMail system wayyyyy back in 1986 at work.
