Scholarly Pursuit
I am currently
in the Instructional Design and Technology Masters Program. I work as an
Instructional Designer at the Joint Warfighting Center in Suffolk, Virginia,
where my job is to help develop training for the military joint forces around
the world. It is a challenging and rewarding position, which exposes me to
many different aspects of instructional design. I am interested in Howard
Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence theory because I believe in different
ways of learning. A process that works for one person simply does not work
for another. |
Professional Activities and History
I gained a serious
interest in education when I was an instructor in the United States Air Force.
As a Military Training Instructor I was assigned to the Reading Improvement
Program where I was faced with the reality that there were too many high
school graduates who had great difficulty reading at a high school level.
I have never looked back, realizing the importance education, not only for
me, but also for my employees. I’ve always tried to inspire those around
me to “shoot for the stars” and not to settle for anything less
Background
|
I grew up in
New Britain, Connecticut, second to the youngest of six children. My four
brothers always had me involved in sports, whether it was baseball, football,
or basketball. My love of sports continued throughout school and while in
the Air Force I was able to travel to many locations while playing on the
base teams. My life of competitive team sports came to an abrupt halt when
I ruptured my Achilles tendon (twice). I still love sports and the outdoors
and take every opportunity to enjoy nature. I enjoy camping, fishing, kayaking,
and riding my motorcycles. The “main man” in my life is my boy
Jake. He is a Jack Russell/Miniature Pinscher mix. He’s ready to ride
the motorcycle as soon as the weather is warm enough. He also loves to kayak.
I have two other passions, one is woodcarving/woodworking and the other is
music. I completed my
bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems and decided to continue
on to a Masters degree. I’ve held many different jobs and as a supervisor
was responsible for the training of all my employees. I’ve always tried
to make training fun. I feel if the learners get bored, they are not going
to be motivated to learn. Learning has to be fun! I also have two Associate
of Applied Science degrees, one in Educational and Instructional Technology,
and the other in Automotive Technology.
