Teachers
are special people. They hold
in their hands our precious future. During
my young adult years, I have always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Children
are my passion. Right after
graduating from Halifax County Sr. High School in South Boston, Virginia,
I attended National Business College in Lynchburg, Virginia and obtained
an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science. I
went to work for the former Burlington Industries in Halifax, Virginia
as an administrative assistant for fifteen years. Due
to foreign competition and the facility closing, I found myself returning
back to college in pursuit of a new career, my long term goal and dream. After
being out of school for 17 years, I obtained my BS in Interdisciplinary
Studies with Old Dominion University and fulfilled my dream and accomplished
my long term goal of becoming a teacher. I
currently teach sixth grade at Meadville Elementary School in Natalie,
Virginia. I am also currently
seeking my MS in Education with Old Dominion University. I
have lived in Southside Virginia all my life. My
very young memorable childhood years were spent in Charlotte County. I
am the 3rd child of 4 born to Mrs. Dorothy Walker and the late
Mr. James A. Walker Sr. After
the death of my father, my mother moved the family to Halifax County, where
I still reside today with my family, my husband and two children. When
not attending graduate classes with ODU or working at Meadville Elementary
School, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, attending church,
singing in the choir, or painting pecan shell figurines.
