Teaching, Professional Responsibilities and Research

My role in the Instructional Technology department has been to support the introductory IT courses aimed at the K-12population. I am first and foremost interested in how we as university faculty can support our collegues in the K-12classroom, and in turn learn from them current issues and strategies dealing with integration of technology into the curriculum. I coordinate faculty teaching ECI 304 and ECI 530 (our introductory courses). My responsiblities on campus include maintaining the department website, professional development activities for College of Education faculty, and working closely with our Professional Development Schools to support technology use in their schools and enhance instructional technology strategies used in our programs. Beginning in 2000, I have begun working with the Special Education Department at ODU to create strategies and technology resources to help students with Learning Disabilities improve their writing.

Professional Activities and History

I have been a career educator for more than 20 years. Upon receiving a Bachelor's Degree from Louisiana State University in Mathematics Education in 1975, I began teaching mathematics at Redemptorist Junior High in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After moving to Virginia Beach in 1982, I resumed teaching mathematics and computer programming at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach. I received my Master's Degree in Secondary Education with an Emphasis in Computers from Old Dominion University in 1988. After "retiring" in 1990 to tend to a growing family, I resumed teaching part-time at Old Dominion University in the Instructional Technology program in 1992. Since then I have served in various capacities - adjunct faculty member, instructor, university supervisor for student teachers, and currently in the role of lecturer.

Background

I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and consequently love spicy food, good music, and crawfish! Since moving to the Tidewater area of Virginia, I have become a converted transplant - I love living here. I satifsy my craving for my Louisiana roots by making frequent trips "back home" - especially during crawfish season! My family includes my husband, Pete, and four children - Neal, Klaus, Wes, and Inga. Oh, and an old lady golden retreiver named Hildie.
