Teaching, Professional Responsibilities and Research

Currently, I am a Reading Specialist at Portlock Primary in Chesapeake, Virginia. My teaching career began in 1976 as a sixth grade teacher (now there’s a story to tell) after receiving my undergraduate degree from Old Dominion University and meandered through grades five and four. After getting my Masters in Reading from Old Dominion University, I became a Title 1 Reading Teacher, then to my current position as a Reading Specialist.

In the past I have taught graduate level technology integration classes for Old Dominion University, Shenandoah University, and Long Island University, as well as, staff training for the following Virginia public school systems: Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Newport News, Virginia Beach, and Fairfax County.

I am a CompTIA Certified A+ Service Technician and a Network+ Certified Professional. Through a local community college, I teach computer repair and network certification training.

Though born in West Virginia, I have spent the majority of my life in the Hampton Roads area. Virginia Beach is the current home of my family of four – my wife, Nancy – two daughters, Annie, a senior at Auburn University (War Eagle!) and Callie, a junior at Cox High School. I enjoy tennis, playing at the guitar, and wasting time.
