2+2 (2 Compliments and 2 Suggestions)

         A 2+2 is effective feedback system that Dr. Allen uses all the time (to get and give feedback).  It is a quick and effective way to open communication (and get in touch with your feelings.  Here at ODU, we think that feelings are important).  The idea is that you combine 2 encouraging things to say (compliments) with 2 constructive things to say (suggestions).  You just do two of each so that the person you are talking to doesn¯t get too much information, and you combine the encouraging with the constructive so that the person gets helped, not burned. 
How to do it?
  1. After Group Discussions 1,4, and 7 you will be required to do a 2+2 on blackboard. You can do these 2+2's on a number of different things including the quality of the questions, members of your group, general aspects of the group discussion experience, etc.
  2. If you submit your 2+2 after the due date you must email the TA's to bring it to their attention, otherwise we won't know that it was submitted. Late 2+2's will receive half credit.

Compliments:

   1.Dave works well within the group context. He is consistently helpful with his
      suggestions, and he is never at a loss for a new idea when it comes to improving the
      process of writing our paper.

  2.Dave is very attentive to details. He is a stickler for accuracy, and is willing to put in
      extra time on researching items and finding corroborative data when accuracy is
      being questioned.

Suggestions:

  1. Dave could try to become more aware of his role in the dynamics of our group. At
      times, I feel as if Dave thinks that it is necessary for him to do all the work, or
      it will not be done. It would be more productive if Dave shared some of the tasks with
      the other members of the group.

  2. Dave needs to become more active in our discussions. He is undoubtedly the most
      accurate, and detail oriented member, but he is not outspoken enough. Many time, I
      have noticed that he has a disagreement during a group discussion, yet he seems
      unwilling to mention it, and defer his opinion to others in the group.
