.3 BEGINNING TEACHERS EQUALS HARDEST ASSIGNMENTS

Another one of my ideals would be that beginning teachers would have the easiest assignments. Doesn't that really sound simplistic? You would think that the teachers with the least amount of experience would have the easiest job. Wrong! The way it's done now is the senior teachers and heads of the departments have the easiest jobs. The department heads will teach the Honors classes. The old timers will have the permanent room assignment. The young, new teachers will be running from room to room as "floaters". In general, we harass new teachers. That's the system. Teachers have such little status in general, that any time a teacher can get a little bit of status, they work to minimize their load. The inexperienced, beginning teacher is being overloaded. This is my idea of a bad system. There are many situations like this throughout the teaching profession that are just silly. But, even though they are silly, we have to deal with them as if they are real. Most people shrug and say, "It's silly but that's the system, can't do anything about it". I want to do something about it because I think we pay too high a price.

What are some of the results of overloading the beginning teachers?
