.4 Cutting Edge

Teachers need to set higher technology standards for ourselves than our schools do, because our students are demanding it from us.

Explanation

Because teachers prepare young people for the world of tommorrow, we should be on the cutting edge. However in the field of technology we lag behind our students. This is partially because of the generation gap that favours the young people who grow up
immersed in technology. But it is also because in the training programs that teachers go through, they are not exposed to enough technology. This means that to be good teachers, we must go out of our way to learn computers. We must set higher standards for ourselves than are being set by our training colleges. If need be, we may even need to learn it from our own students.

Where do old teachers and new teachers rank with students when it comes to using technology? Click Here to Answer
Mrs. Johnson has been a high school trigonometry teacher for many years. Mr. Parker comes in this year as a new teacher out of college to teach geometry and trigonometry. Mr. Parker takes his class to the computer lab weekly to study for tests and create things with the geometrical and mathematical review software that the school has provided. Mrs. Johnson's class never comes to the lab, and over half of them fail that year. The following year, everybody wants to take these courses with Mr. Parker rather than with Mrs. Johnson. Why would this be the case?
