Picking Teachers
The
students should be able to pick their teacher, starting with the worst
students first.
Students
are supposed to be randomly assigned to their new teacher's classroom
each year. This system works on the assumption that all teachers are equal,
so it doesn't matter which one you get, you will be taught the same regardless.
This is not true, we all know that some teachers are better than others.
So what really happens is the most aggressive mothers harass administrators
to put their childre in the best teacher's classes.
Instead
of this happening under the table, we should open it up to make sure that
it is fair. All students should get to pick their teacher, with the failing
students choosing first. The best teachers need to go to the children
with the most problems. This would help the students because simply being
able to make a choice empowers them by involving them in their own education.
Different students learn better from different teachers, and only the
students themselves know which ones work for them.

Why
is choice such and important factor when it comes to assigning a child's
teacher? |

Suzanne
is a student that excels in English and cannot stand mathematics at
all. She has failed the same class (Algebra I) three times with the
same teacher because that is where the school keeps placing her. How
could Suzanne's choice in the matter of who her teacher is affect
the status of her graduation date? |
