After
graduating from Henan Normal University in China
in 1984 with a bachelor degree in English Linguistics
and Literature, Zhongtang Ren began his teaching
career at Luoyang Normal University teaching various courses including
English Listening Comprehension, English Literature,
Extensive Reading, Intensive Reading, and English
Grammar.
In February 1993
Ren was selected nationwide as translator and project
officer at the Foreign Investment and Loan Office
(FILO) of the Ministry of Education (MOE, formerly
called the State Education Commission, SEdC) of
China, working with the World Bank, the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP), and the other international
organizations and agencies for educational projects
in China, responsible for coordinating local and
international specialist project panels' field visits
and local scholars' study tours abroad.
While at the Ministry
of Education he was awarded with funding as visiting
scholar to the United States for a year from August
1995 to September 1996. After his return to China,
Ren was promoted to Director of Academic Affairs
Office and later to Deputy Chief of the Educational
Research Center at Luoyang Normal University.
In 2000 Ren came
back to the States, earning his master degree in
Secondary Education from Old Dominion University
before pursuing his PhD in Urban Studies. Since
2000 Zhongtang Ren has served as teaching assistant
for ECI 301 while working on his dissertation. He earned his PhD in August 2006. While
employing himself in his academic career, Ren was
also involved in ACTT Now, an educational project
in Brunswick, Virginia, supported by the US Department
of Education, doing evaluation work in 2000-2003.
Since
2004 he has been selected as the member of the RCR
(Responsible Conduct of Research) Task Force consisting
of 9 members from Old Dominion University. |
