Bill AyersChris W. Gallagher is Associate Professor of English and Coordinator of Composition at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he teaches courses in writing, rhetoric, literacy, and teaching.   He has been involved with Nebraska's School-based, Teacher-led Assessment and Reporting System (STARS), for several years, including a stint as Coordinator and Principal Investigator for the Comprehensive Evaluation of STARS.   He has written about this system in several articles and most recently in a book, Reclaiming Assessment: A Better Alternative to the Accountability Agenda.  He agreed to write about this innovative idea for THE CONSTRUCTIVIST.   Chris can be reached at cgallagher2@unl.edu.

Rheta DeVriesCatherine Twomey Fosnot is Professor of Childhood Education and Director of Mathematics in the City, a national center of in-service for math education, at City College of New York. She has written many books on issues critical to thinking and learning. She is the first president of ACT and founded, then edited the ACT journal THE CONSTRUCTIVIST for several years. Kelly Kent-Johnson sat down with her after Cathy gave a presentation on teaching math to special education teachers in Virginia last year. ctfosnot@ccny.cuny.edu
