Marilyn Marloff

Marilyn Marloff has been with Old Dominion University since 1987. She has served as Dance Program Director from 1987 till 2010, and 2017 till 2021. She has also served as the Chief Departmental Advisor for all dance majors and minors since 1987. Professor Marloff holds B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Dance Performance from the University of Oklahoma. Her early training included study at Chautauqua Institution, Point Park College, Fort Lauderdale Academy for the Performing Arts, and various studios in NYC. She has performed and/or choreographed for dance companies in New York and throughout the United States including Broadway Express, New Orleans Contemporary Dance Company, Oklahoma Repertory Dance Theatre, Virginia Ballet Theatre, Virginia Stage Company, Second Wind Dance Company and CREO New Music Ensemble. Her choreography has also been presented at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro; George Mason University; Richmond Choreographers Showcase; Dance Exchange in Tulsa, OK; Merce Cunningham Studio in New York City; and the Virginia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (VAHPERD). Her video work and collaborations have received numerous awards at international film festivals in Europe, Canada, South America, and the United States. Professor Marloff has been the co-artistic director of Old Dominion University Dance Theatre and teaches all levels of modern dance technique, beginning ballet technique, anatomy/kinesiology for dance, teaching principles, dance composition, and dance appreciation.
