Professor Lester received his BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute, his MS in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University, and PhD in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University. Dr. Lester is currently a Master Lecturer for the Civil Engineering Technology Program in the Engineering Technology Department, F. Batten College of Engineering and Technology, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA.

Prior to joining ODU, Professor Lester had two years of teaching experience at Virginia Military Institute, and three years teaching and research at West Virginia University focusing on culvert hydrodynamics. He also has more than fifteen years of experience in private consulting in Virginia and West Virginia working on water, wastewater and stormwater design and construction projects.

His specialty is Water Resources and Construction. He teaches the following undergraduate courses; Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology and Drainage, Hydraulic Engineering, Fundamentals of Building Construction, Soils and Foundations, Soils Testing Laboratory, and is the grader for the Site Design portion of Senior Design.

Professor Lester remains active in consulting and works part time for a local Water Resources focused firm assisting with design and construction projects in the Hampton Roads area for a variety of clients, including the City of Norfolk and City of Virginia Beach. He brings real world practical experience from his current and past design projects and is able to provide students with authentic problems that they will face upon graduation.

Professor Lester is a retired Marine reservist with over twenty years of service. He was activated twice in support of the Global War on Terrorism. He is an infantry officer and during last mobilization, he served as the Mission Assurance Officer for U.S. Marine Forces Command, in Norfolk, VA.

Professor Lester is married with two sons and lives in Capron, VA.
