The following announcements were received through May 2012.

AWARDS

ADRIENNE GOODSON, women's basketball assistant coach and 1989 ODU graduate, inducted into the Hudson County (N.J.) Sports Hall of Fame. Goodson, a member of ODU's 1985 NCAA national championship team, was a two-time All-Sun Belt performer and was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year as a senior.

BISMARCK MYRICK, ambassador in residence, selected to serve as this year's grand marshal for the Umoja Festival in Portsmouth.

BURTON ST. JOHN III, associate professor of communication, a Highly Commended Paper Award from Emerald Literati for the journal article (co-written with Margot Opdycke Lamme) "The Evolution of an Idea: Charting the Early Public Relations Ideology of Edward L. Bernays," published in the summer 2011 (vol. 15, no. 3) edition of the Journal of Communication Management.

XIXI WANG, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, had one of his published papers, "Simulated Wetland Conservation-Restoration Effects on Water Quantity and Quality at Watershed Scale" listed by BioMedLib as the seventh top paper on the same topic. The paper was published in the July 2010 issue of Journal of Environmental Management.

JOHN ADAM, University Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, "X and the City: The Mathematics of Urban Life," based on his new book, "X and the City: Modeling Aspects of Urban Life" (Princeton University Press), at the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) in London.

DEBRA MAJOR, professor of psychology, "Testing a Social Cognitive Career Theory Model of Professional Development" at the 27th Annual Conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in San Diego. Co-authors are Karin Orvis of the Army Research Institute; VALERIE MORGANSON, a graduate of the industrial/organizational psychology doctoral program; and KRISTINA BAUER, doctoral candidate in the industrial/organizational psychology program.

THIVIA MOGAN, graduate student in the industrial/organizational psychology program; Karin Orvis of the Army Research Institute; and DEBRA MAJOR, professor of psychology, "No Time for Self-development: Moderating Effects of Individual Differences" at the 27th Annual Conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in San Diego.

VALERIE MORGANSON, a graduate of the industrial/organizational psychology doctoral program, and DEBRA MAJOR, professor of psychology, "Coping with Customer Sexual Harassment: Retaliation and Traditional Coping Strategies" at the 27th Annual Conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in San Diego.

DYLAN WITTKOWER, assistant professor of philosophy, "Facebook and the Occupation" at the 4th ICTs and Society Conference: Critique, Democracy, and Philosophy in 21st Century Information Society, supported by Vetenskapsrådet/the Swedish Research Council, Uppsala University. Also, "Reification 2.0: How Facebook Changes our Relationships with Others and with Ourselves," a colloquium presentation at the University of North Texas.
