APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS

OKTAY BAYSAL, dean of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology, appointed by Gov. Bob McDonnell to the state Board of Education.

LAURIE CRAIGEN, assistant professor of human services, elected to the National Organization of Human Services Executive Board. She will serve as vice president for regional development.

AWARDS

INGO HEIDBRINK, professor of history (maritime history), a research fellowship with the LOEWE Research Focus "Extrajudicial and Judicial Conflict Resolution" at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, for fall 2014.

LYNN RIDINGER, associate professor of sport management, the 2013 Distinguished Sport Management Educator Award from the North American Society for Sport Management.

ANDREAS TOLK, professor of engineering management and systems engineering, a special recognition award as one of the local authors for the "M&S Flexbook" during the commonwealth of Virginia's Innovative Technology Symposium (COVITS) in Richmond.
