Monarch Magazine

Monarch Magazine Summer 2023 Cover

Summer 2023

The summer 2023 issue looks into the future, offering predictions from 14 faculty members and graduates on topics ranging from ChatGPT to the restaurant industry. In another section, four Monarchs reflect on the war engulfing Ukraine. Three grew up there. One volunteered in Berlin last year, greeting and feeding Ukrainian refugees.

The magazine also features last year's installation of Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D., as Old Dominion's ninth president; showcases an exhibition of newly acquired glass sculptures at the Barry Art Museum; introduces seven new deans, and profiles alumni including the former director of the FBI's Terrorist Screening Center, a mayor trying to revive her hometown in Maryland, and one of the nation's leading - and funniest - beer promoters.
