Job Search Boot Camp
The CMC Job Search Boot Camp was packed with opportunities to engage with actual recruiters and CMC staff. Topped-off with a round of Speed Networking, students and alumni practiced their networking skills and asked questions specific to their job search process.
As a soon-to-be graduate, the transition from being student to a young professional can be daunting. Not anymore! The Job Search Boot Camp offered by the ODU Career Management Center (CMC) helped me shape up for my future career search. Thanks to the expert advice from professionals in the field and resume assistance from CMC staff, I have a renewed sense of confidence in landing my first job.
Nine Employer contacts representing various industries met with an exclusive group of students and alumni for small group and one-on-one, personal training at the CMC's bi-annual Job Search Boot Camp. Recruiters from both Government and Private Agencies presented on Job Search Strategies, Networking, and Interviewing Tips; giving our students access to insider tips into their recruitment process.
Employer Speed Networking
The information that was given along with how it was presented will stay with me for a long time. Thanks for personally reviewing my resume and making the Job Search Boot Camp a success.
The job search boot camp was one of the best CMC's events in which I've taken part. The number of recruiters that gave presentations and met with us during speed networking gave tremendous insights into very effective and efficient ways to find a new job. In fact, I was able to obtain an initial interview with one of the companies represented that day. Even if things don't work out with this company, I still feel that the event was worth taking time off from work and worth the energy of preparing my resume, business cards, dressing an interview-style business attire, etc.
The Job Search Boot Camp at ODU is exactly the kind of thing I needed but never had as a student: Practical advice from employers and hiring managers on topics directly relevant to the current job market. Not only are many of the visiting employers hiring, but they all have good tips from the trenches to share with students. It's an opportunity for employers to share knowledge, but also to meet students who are investing time in their job search and may be candidates for job openings. The job market is extremely competitive and this Boot Camp event is one of the best ways students can talk directly and candidly to employers about how to gain an edge and secure a position after graduation.
