About the Program

Whether you are interested in professional development or pursuing human resource certification, the easy-to-use SHRM® Learning System Course is designed to provide you with an overview of key areas in human resource management. This course provides a solid foundation for managing the HR challenges you face in today's demanding work environment. It supplies a current reference of HR practices, broadens the perspective of functional specialists, and strengthens individual competencies and productivity. The Human Resource Management Program provides high quality program materials, a web-based learning system, and instruction and program support in providing the SHRM learning system to HR professionals. Materials include six modules that correspond to the six functional areas, responsibilities, and associated knowledge as defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). The program is offered in cooperation with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a study material for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification examinations administered by HRCI.

HR Certification Institute Testing

The HR Certification Institute requires HR professionals sitting for the PHR or SPHR exams to have a combination of demonstrated work experience and education. Visit www.hrci.org for more details.

All certification testing is computer-based and conducted at Prometric Test Centers around the world. If you have any further questions regarding the PHR or SPHR exams, visit www.hrci.org, or call 1-866-898-4724/+1-703-535-6000 or e-mail info@hrci.org.

HR Certification Institute Exam Dates

For best results, schedule your certification exam for a date that is after the end of your particular class section. The next test window is December 1, 2014 through January 31, 2015.

Who Should Attend

This course is specifically designed for professionals with experience in general management or human resource management. It is especially beneficial for those seeking to advance in their careers, gain a broader understanding of human resource management, or "upgrade" their PHR certification to SPHR.

For those not seeking certification, the SHRM Learning System for PHR/SPHR course provides a comprehensive and accelerated option for professional development. Participants gain a generalist point of view, refresh key ideas and concepts, strengthen their understanding of core competencies and increase productivity. Long after completing the course, Learning System materials will serve as a valuable day-to-day resource manual, providing answers to a wide range of HR challenges.

Preparing to Pass

When you complete this course, you will be prepared to pass the PHR or SPHR exam. Year after year, professionals who use the SHRM Learning System consistently beat the average pass rate.

ODU students are very successful passing the test after participating in the class. In 2013, 70% of students passed the PHR test and 100% passed the SPHR which exceeded the College/University pass rate as reported by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

When asked if certification was worth the cost and effort, HR professionals, on average, attributed a personal ROI of 253% to personal certification. Over one-third believed the benefits were worth more than five times the cost, suggesting an ROI of 476%!*
