TERRY FRANKLIN
BYRUM (FRANK)
Chief Scientist
Mr. Byrum has been involved in
the building of large scale software, computing, and network
architectures for 18 years.
Past employers include Digital Equipment Corporation, InfiNet,
GreatBridge, NetworkTwo, NorthWall, and Brooks Financial Systems.
His focus has included the design, development, deployment,
and operations of several large technology projects. While
his main focus has been driven by technology, he has also
played strategic advisory roles in business planning, marketing,
and sales.
He currently serves as technical business strategist and
Interim CTO for several startup companies. His business focus
includes software development, systems and network design,
security, and disaster recovery. He is also a Research Instructor
for the Department of Information Technology and Decision
Sciences at Old Dominion University.
Mr. Byrum’s background includes network and systems
architecture design, research in network devices, database
replication, firewall technology, software metrics, and software
development.
Past projects include the lead technical consultant for
the design replacement of the EDHCP Veterans Administration
100 largest hospital computing and network environments; overseeing
the design, deployment, and operation of a 72-PoP multiregional
ISP, InfiNet, including a 3000 web site production fault-resilient
server farm; running the design group for a 320+ PoP (Network
Two, formally the ADP backbone) North American network, including
the redesign of an ATM backbone and numerous software research
and development projects.
He is a graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA,
where he received a BS in Computer Science with an emphasis
on Systems Design Programming. He is currently completing
his thesis for a MS in Software Engineering.
