2012 SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation
Old Dominion University is currently engaged in activities supporting the renewal of its accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS), a process which will culminate in the University's Reaffirmation of Accreditation in December 2012.
Old Dominion University is pleased to participate in this in-depth review and planning activity that will demonstrate the University's commitment to a regular, data-based process of self-assessment and improvement in the areas of student learning, educational programs, research and the service aspects of its mission.
The University completed its SACSCOC Compliance Certification last fall and received feedback on the review of the Off-Site Team. A Focused Report was submitted in early March 2012 to respond to the few concerns which were identified.
Improving Disciplinary Writing, the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), is intended to improve upper-division undergraduate students' disciplinary writing – that is, writing that demonstrates a reasoning process supported by research and reflection on a problem, topic or issue – through two faculty development and engagement initiatives. The QEP is forward-focused and emphasizes an aspect of student learning that the University's study and research has identified as needing improvement.
A team of faculty and administrators from peer institutions around the South will make up the On-Site Committee which will visit the campus April 15-19, 2012. As part of this visit, a review of the QEP and any remaining compliance issues will be conducted. Further, Committee members will visit a number of the University’s off-campus and distance locations. We look forward to this opportunity to demonstrate the quality of the University’s faculty and programs.
