Welcome From the Vice President

Welcome to the Office of Research at Old Dominion University.

ODU is classified as a Carnegie Research Institution with a "high" research activity. ODU's total R&D expenditures amounted to $73.6 million in FY 2007. The National Science Foundation ranked thirteen ODU programs amongst the top 100 of their respective national peers in terms of R&D expenditures. The university is ranked 68th in total R&D expenditures amongst institutions without affiliated medical schools, 80th in DOD research, and 47th in NASA research.

Our growing body of faculty researchers, which includes 51 elected fellows, serves in editorial roles for over 240 journals. At ODU, it is not only the quantity of research that makes our mission imperative, but the quality of its implementations as well.

The Office of Research is dedicated to fostering the creation of intellectual capital that can address today's issues, improve the quality of life, and provide an engine for economic growth by facilitating R&D across six colleges and its many research centers. The Office establishes and oversees the university's legal, ethical and safety standards and regulations relating to research.

We look forward to working with you and your research endeavors.

Mohammad Karim
Vice President for Research
