RETURNING STUDENTS

Semester / Academic Year Students

Welcome Back!  We hope that your semester / academic year abroad proved to be fun, rewarding, and educational.  We encourage you to take a few minutes to fill out our evaluation and learn more about opportunities to live in the International Connection/The Inn, volunteer in our office, become a Monarch Mentor, participate in the conversation partner program, improve your resume/cover letter, make sure your credits transfer properly, share some of your experiences with other students who studied abroad recently and study abroad (again).

Evaluation
Please take a few minutes to complete our evaluation as it helps us to learn about your experiences, better advise future students and improve the exchanges/programs.

Re-entry to the U.S.
Readjusting to life in the U.S. after living abroad is a transition that takes time and effort to do successfully.  Do you find yourself bored?  Do you find that some of your friends and family aren't as eager to hear about your adventures as you had anticipated?  You will have the opportunity to share and learn about the re-entry process at our pizza party, but we suggest you also refer to some resources before the party.  Our office is also available to discuss this process with you anytime.  We look forward to hearing about your experiences/adventures abroad as well as your "re-entry" experiences.

Volunteer in the Office of Study Abroad
Our office is always looking for volunteers to assist us with classroom presentations, information sessions, promotional materials/events, Study Abroad Fairs, orientations, incoming exchange students, etc.  Please contact our office if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

Monarch Mentor Program
Assist newly arrived international students with their transition to life at ODU/in the U.S.  This program is an excellent way to use your new intercultural communication skills (and further improve them), help others to adjust to a new culture/country/language/university system, give back to the community and make new friends.

Conversation Partner Program
The Conversation Partner Program is run by ODU's English Language Center and provides students an opportunity to practice a second language, assist international students with their English and hopefully learn more about one another's cultures.

Attend our Pizza Party and Welcome/Welcome Back Party
Come join us for our Pizza Party at Dragas International Center to talk about your experiences abroad with other students, show us your pictures, ensure your credits transfer properly, learn how to improve your resume/cover letter and possibly study abroad (again).

Join us for our Welcome/Welcome Back Party to continue the conversation and meet the new incoming exchange students.  These are the students who have just arrived to ODU from abroad and are eager to meet students like yourselves.  This is an excellent opportunity to help the new exchange students feel welcome at ODU and help them as they adjust to life at ODU/in the U.S.  Contact the Office of Study Abroad for more details on these parties.
