Short-Term Faculty-Led Programs/Courses These courses/programs offer faculty the chance to "broaden students' horizons" both in the classroom and outside of it in new and exciting ways. We encourage faculty to consider leading a program abroad. If you are interested in leading a course/program abroad, we suggest taking a look at the faculty manual and then contacting Steve Johnson (sjohnson@odu.edu; 683-5378) to set up a meeting to discuss your proposed program.
Advising on Study Abroad (for your students) We hope that you will encourage all of your students to consider studying abroad during his/her ODU career. In order to properly advise students on their study abroad options, we ask that you refer them to our office.
Chief Departmental Advisors Study Abroad students are instructed to contact you to have their proposed courses/classes/modules/units evaluated for transfer credit before they leave the U.S. We ask the students to provide you with a course description and the trasfer credit evaluation form from our office. We ask you to assess the course selections chosen by the student that fall under your academic department for pre-approval of credit transfer and indicate the appropriate equivalent ODU course(s) (i.e. COMM 360, COMM 400, COMM 3ELE [300 level elective]). Feel free to contact our office with any questions and/or concerns regarding this process. Thank you for your help and support of our students.
Faculty Recommendation If you have been asked to fill out a faculty recommendation form for a student who is applying for study abroad, you can download it here. These forms are for students who are applying to study abroad for a semester or academic year. We would appreciate it if you could complete the form, put it in a sealed envelope and return it to the student who will bring it to our office directly. Thank you for taking the time to fill out the recommendation form.
Dean's Education Abroad Award (Recommendation letter) You may be approached by a student who asks you to write a letter of recommendation for a Dean's Education Abroad Award. We do not have a standard form for this scholarship as we require a letter of recommendation/support. Faculty will typically mention some of the following when recommending students: class performance, maturity, motivation, work ethic, ability to handle stress, ability to adapt and/or be flexible, etc...Feel free to contact our office if you would like more information about the Dean's Education Abroad Award. |
