ADMISSION AND VISA INFORMATION
Health Insurance
All F-1 students are required to purchase health insurance for the duration of the time they are enrolled in the English Language Center (ELC) at Old Dominion University.
Medical costs in the U.S. are extremely high, and there are no government programs to cover expenses if an F-1 student needs to see a doctor or be hospitalized. Purchasing health insurance helps protect you against the high cost of health care and ensures that medical costs will not keep you from attending classes.
The ELC pre-approves policies from AIG and AETNA. You can find more information about these policies at the link below:
Important Insurance Information for International Students
The ELC will continue to take other insurance as long as it meets ODU's requirements. You can find more information on insurance compliance at the link below:
Insurance Compliance Information
If you do not purchase insurance before you arrive, you must purchase it within one week of the beginning of the session. If you need help, please contact the ELC at (757) 683-4424 or elc@odu.edu.
