ADMISSION AND VISA INFORMATION
Required Health Insurance/Alternate Insurance
All F-1 students are required to have health insurance for the duration of the time they are enrolled in the English Language Center (ELC) at Old Dominion University.
Insurance coverage must include the following:
- Benefits for treatment that is medically necessary for most injuries and illnesses, allowing specific exclusions and limitations.
- Treatment for illnesses/injuries not limited to that obtained while being hospitalized - includes treatment in outpatient clinics/offices.
- Expenses incurred as a result of pregnancy treated to the same extent as any other medical condition up to the maximum benefit provided by the policy (if individual meets policy's criteria for eligibility).
- Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness.
- Repatriation of remains in the amount of at least $15,000.
- Expenses associated with medical evacuation to your home country in the amount of at least $10,000.
- Deductible not to exceed $100/year and no co-insurance is required. Below is the name and the website of the company that is currently approved by the English Language Center (ELC)and the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at ODU: www.studentinsurance.com/odu
- The English Language Center will accept other insurance policies if the policy is written in English and it meets the requirements listed above. However, students must have their insurance provider complete the Alternate Insurance Approval Request Form.
