New Education Abroad International Health Insurance Policy Approved
Old Dominion University recognizes that our students' careers will be multidimensional, global, and diverse. And t
o succeed in the emerging world of interconnected peoples, cultures, and environments, ODU students should develop their intercultural skills as well as take advantage of the wealth of international education experiences available to them.
Consistent with these aims, the Office of International Programs is pleased to announce the recent authorization of the Old Dominion University Education Abroad International Health Insurance Policy by Acting President John R. Broderick. Under this policy, all students, faculty, administrators and staff participating in education abroad initiatives -- whether of a credit or non-credit nature - are required to carry complete international health insurance coverage for the duration of their programs. Education abroad programs - commonly referred to as study abroad programs - comprise credit and non-credit international study, internship, work, volunteer, and service-learning programs.
Beyond requiring that all ODU education abroad students, faculty, administrators and staff have comprehensive international health insurance for the duration of their programs, the Education Abroad International Health Insurance Policy was enacted to: 1) provide, expand and strengthen the means and ability of the University to respond to and manage emergency and crisis situations overseas; and 2) enable education abroad participants to better address and respond to medical needs that arise while overseas.
