Office of University Licensing & Merchandising
Old Dominion University's Licensing Department was established to ensure the public properly identifies and associates ODU logos on products bearing the institution's marks. Old Dominion's licensing program now has over 100 approved vendors/retailers, and proudly contributes to both academic and athletic scholarships.
Old Dominion's formal trademark licensing program enables the University to share in the benefits from the commercial use of its name and identifying marks. The program establishes a cooperative relationship with licensees to assist in the further development of a market for "officially licensed products of Old Dominion University," and it encourages consumers to buy products that support the University.
The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) is contracted with Old Dominion University to help administer the licensing program on a national basis. CLC's main duty as the University's agent is to pre-screen all manufacturers desiring to produce goods bearing University marks.
CLC also provides the following services:
- assists with special promotions
- provides licensing information to potential licensees
- executes the licensing agreement with licensees
- notifies retailers about University merchandise and opportunities
- searches for infringement violations
- conducts on-site audits when deemed appropriate
