A crowd of 400 gathered on Foreman Field May 31 for the news, which was followed by a “tailgate party.” To meet Title IX equity requirements, ODU will also add three new women’s sports in the coming years: crew in 2007-08, softball in 2010-11 and volleyball in 2014-15. Football to join intercollegiate sports lineup in 2009 What may have seemed like third and long for Old Dominion football last year has now turned to first and goal. During a “tailgate party” at Foreman Field on May 31, university officials announced that football will return to campus in the fall of 2009, nearly 70 years after the school’s first and only program ended its 11-year run at the close of the 1940 season.
