The event was held as part of the university’s Black History Month activities. Cynthia Jones named one of two Virginia Outstanding Scientists Cynthia Jones, professor of biological sciences, was one of two researchers selected this week to receive the annual Virginia Outstanding Scientist Award. Full story Controversial author, Nobel laureate next in line for lecture series The author of the acclaimed book “Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word” and the 1976 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be the next speakers in the President’s Lecture Series. Harvard law professor Randall Kennedy, author of the controversial book, will speak at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Webb Center cafeteria. Full story
