Engineering prof's son is big winner on "Jeopardy"

Kunle Demuren, the 12-year-old son of Deji Demuren, professor of mechanical engineering, won $49,000 as a contestant on the television game show "Jeopardy," which aired Sept. 18.

An eighth-grader at Kemps Landing Middle School in Virginia Beach, he competed against students from Georgia and Maine as part of the quiz show's "Back to School Week" special. His winnings fell only $1,000 short of setting a "Jeopardy" record for the most money won in a day, a record that was set in the adult tournament.

An avid reader, Kunle and his family watch the show nearly every night. According to his parents, most of the money he won will go toward savings for college.
