Former Lady Monarch battles two tennis greats

Former Lady Monarch tennis player Tzipi Obziler represented her home nation of Israel in the Federation Cup, held late last month. Her first-round match-ups were against Americans Monica Seles and Lindsey Davenport.

Obziler lost to nine-time grand slam winner Seles, 6-4, 6-2. She was defeated by three-time grand slam winner Davenport 2-6, 6-1, 7-6. In the third set, Obziler was two points away from winning on two separate occasions.

Current Lady Monarch standout Nataly Cahana also was named to Israel's team. She made her first Fed Cup appearance at age 17.

In her one season at Old Dominion, Obziler went 22-2 and won the 1995 national clay court title, becoming the university's only tennis national champion.
